“That’s ours. We did that.”
Imagine pointing to the most popular piece of public art in our country and being able to say, “That’s ours. We did that.”
Here’s your chance to bring that dream to life: Lord Stanley’s Gift Public Art Competition.
A MILESTONE YEAR
2017 is the 125th anniversary of the Stanley Cup—a precious gift to Canadians and our game from our sixth governor general, Lord Stanley of Preston. In a happy and harmonious coincidence, 2017 also marks the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation and the 100th of the National Hockey League.
During that milestone year, we will reaffirm the Stanley Cup Trophy’s centrality to our game, our country and our lives by unveiling a monument that pays tribute to one man’s enduring gift.
CANADA’S MOST POPULAR PIECE OF PUBLIC ART
The monument will stand in Ottawa at the east end of Sparks Street and face Confederation Square. A jury made up of art experts and hockey greats will select the artistic team that will design what promises to be the most popular piece of public of art in Canada.
Now imagine pointing to that monument and saying, “That’s ours. We did that.”
